AD Ports Group Publishes 2023 Sustainability Report, Highlighting Major Progress in Decarbonisation and ESG Goals

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 19 September 2024: AD Ports Group, a prominent global trade, logistics, and industry leader, has unveiled its 2023 Sustainability Report, showcasing considerable strides in reducing its environmental footprint and advancing sustainability. As a listed entity on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX: ADPORTS), the Group’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles is central to its operations, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Abu Dhabi’s sustainability initiatives. The report underscores AD Ports Group’s proactive approach to creating positive environmental, social, and economic impacts, fostering a more sustainable future in the UAE and beyond.

The 2023 report details numerous achievements, including the successful execution of 124 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, an 84% employee job satisfaction rate, and a 57% increase in total employee training hours. Female representation within the company increased by 42%, and AD Ports Group was recognized with awards from prestigious institutions, such as the United Nations, Harvard Business Council, and an Abu Dhabi Sustainable Business Leadership Award, for its commitment to ESG practices. Central to the Group’s environmental achievements was the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in container port handling operations by 2%, cutting GHG intensity from 11.93 to 11.67 kgCO2e per TEU (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit). These gains were driven by efficiency improvements, energy savings, and increased use of solar photovoltaic (PV) power.

Notable advancements in AD Ports Group’s decarbonisation efforts were highlighted, including a 7% reduction in electricity consumption intensity and a 174% increase in recycled solid waste. Solar PV installations contributed to a reduction of 5,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Expansion of solar PV projects is also planned at Khalifa Port, Zayed Port, the Abu Dhabi headquarters, and Safaga Port in Egypt.
