Iyris Partners with Hyma Plastic to Bring SecondSky Greenhouse Covers to Egypt

Dubai, U.A.E. – In a significant step toward advancing sustainable agriculture in Egypt, Iyris (formerly RedSea) has partnered with Hyma Plastic, Egypt’s leading provider of polyethylene film products. This collaboration designates Hyma Plastic as the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of Iyris’ SecondSky greenhouse films in Egypt, combining Iyris’ innovative AgriClimate technology with Hyma’s established manufacturing capabilities.

This partnership brings Iyris’ award-winning SecondSky greenhouse covers, designed to tackle extreme heat and water scarcity, directly to Egyptian farmers. With proven success in the region, the technology has already shown its benefits in a 25-hectare installation at a government-owned site managed by Lokal Harvest. This project demonstrated that SecondSky AGRI greenhouse films not only extend growing seasons but can also reduce energy and water consumption by over 30%, providing a return on investment within a single crop cycle.

Meeting the Challenges of Hot Climates

Simon Stockil, Growth Director for EMEA at Iyris, highlighted the importance of this collaboration for Egyptian agriculture: “This agreement with Hyma Plastic allows us to make heat-blocking greenhouse film technology more accessible to Egyptian farmers. By combining our expertise, we’re accelerating the deployment of solutions tailored to the challenges of farming in hot climates.”

With demand for Iyris products increasing across Egypt, this partnership follows Iyris’ previous Memorandum of Understanding with Magrabi Agriculture, a major fresh produce supplier in Egypt. This recent expansion underscores Iyris’ commitment to sustainable solutions that help farmers maintain crop quality and increase yields amid rising temperatures and water shortages.

Supporting Sustainable Crop Production with Advanced Technology

SecondSky AGRI greenhouse films are designed to block near-infrared heat radiation, which mitigates the severe heat stress that often affects crops in hot climates. By deploying this technology, Egyptian farmers gain access to a reliable solution that enhances crop productivity while conserving critical resources. This is a milestone for Hyma Plastic, as they continue to build on a reputation for providing high-quality agricultural films. Aly Samy Fahmy, Deputy CEO at Hyma Plastic, emphasized, “Our partnership with Iyris enables us to add globally recognized heat-blocking technology to our AGRI product line, supporting yield, quality, and profitability for our customers.”

With an annual production capacity exceeding 65,000 tons, Hyma Plastic has a well-established presence in major agriculture projects across Africa and the Middle East. Their collaboration with Iyris is part of the company’s “Hyma 2030” vision, which is aimed at fostering sustainable innovation to meet the challenges posed by climate change.

A Global Vision for Sustainable Agriculture

Operating across eleven countries on five continents, Iyris has consistently demonstrated its commitment to sustainable farming. The SecondSky greenhouse covers are just one example of Iyris’ AgriClimate solutions, which help farmers in diverse regions optimize growing conditions while reducing resource consumption. This latest partnership with Hyma Plastic marks a significant step in Iyris’ mission to help feed the world sustainably and strengthen food security in Egypt and beyond.
